Established in 2004 to raise funds to help maintain the structure of St. Mary the Virgin, Burpham, West Sussex both as a place of worship and as a resource for the use of residents and visitors.
Most of the parish would have worked to build the church when it was first established in the middle of the 11th century. During the intervening centuries just about everyone, including the vicar, paid to keep it in good repair.
The cost of keeping the church open is now about £25,000 a year, and repair and maintenance costs are about £6,500 per annum. Even with a generous and relatively large congregation this is a challenge, and the burden needs to be spread wider.
By becoming a member of Friends of Burpham Church, you will be contributing to the upkeep of the building. Gift Aided donations or Gift Aided standing orders would be very much welcomed.
